Cross Country Skiing in Jasper National Park

Tonquin Valley is world renowned for it's exceptional ski touring terrain. Nearby glaciers beckon and untracked powder awaits. We boast the highest annual snowfall in Jasper National Park.

The shortest access to the Tonquin Valley in the winter is over Maccarib Pass via Portal Creek. Total distance 22km (13miles). This high alpine pass is very scenic and reasonably fit, intermediate skiers should allow 7 hours to Tonquin Amethyst Lake Lodge. Guests wanting a hut to hut tour can ski up the Cavell Road 11km (6.5miles) to the Cavell Hostel. Then ski along the Astoria River for 18.6km (11.6miles) to Tonquin Amethyst Lake Lodge. This trail is snowmobile packed to make travel easier.

Guest's stay in private, heated cabins (bedding provided). Skiers have the option of either guided or self-guided trips, fully catered or self catered. We offer Avalanche Awareness courses with guiding and instruction provided. We hire only ACMG certified guides to ensure a high quality experience for your group.
